Russia’s UAZ launches vehicle exports to Costa Rica

MOSCOW, Feb 22 (PRIME) -- Russian carmaker UAZ has started exports of UAZ Patriot and UAZ Pickup sport-utility vehicles and UAZ Profit light trucks to Costa Rica, the company said in a statement on Thursday.

UAZ said it opened its first dealership center in Costa Rica with support of its local distributor Vehiculos rusos de Centroamerica S.A. The company said it signed a distributor contract to supply the first 50 vehicles to Costa Rica in late 2017.

“Taking into account that the share of the market of sport-utility vehicles in Costa Rica amounts to 40–45%, Russian sport-utility vehicles of UAZ have all chances to obtain their niche and be in demand on this market,” UAZ said.

“Costa Rica is not the largest market in Central America for UAZ’s volumes, but supplies to this region may grow to 500–700 vehicles a year in case of successful development of distribution of our local partners to neighboring countries as well, including Guatemala, Panama, and Salvador,” Andrei Dorofeyev, UAZ’s director for exports, was quoted as saying.
